Newbies Guide

A comprehensive guide for new players covering character upgrades, the pool system, equipment, weapons, treasures, souls, and other essential game systems.

Upgrade Guide

General Upgrade Strategy

  • Focus the majority of your resources on upgrading UR+ characters, as they provide the greatest long-term value and power.
  • If you upgrade a regular UR character, stop at +6 using the Wheel or Fate system. This is enough to make them useful without wasting resources.
  • The main purpose of upgrading normal UR characters is only to help you progress through early stages. They act as temporary support until you obtain stronger UR+ characters.
  • Upgrading normal UR characters beyond +6 is generally a waste of gold and materials. Those resources are better saved for future UR+ upgrades.
  • By following this method, you are guaranteed to save enough gold to pull at least one UR+ character later.

Beginner Recommendation

When you first begin playing, the $5 Wheel Pack provides excellent value:

  • The pack includes two UR+ characters.
  • Divine Rage Ma Chao is extremely strong and highly useful throughout the game. He is worth upgrading as much as possible.
  • The second UR+ character from the pack is much weaker. It is not necessary to spend resources upgrading her.

Important Upgrade Notes

  • Do not upgrade every UR+ character to +10. Reaching +10 requires a large amount of materials and should only be done for top-tier heroes that gain major power spikes at max level.
  • For the majority of UR+ characters, stopping at +9 is more than enough.
  • The same principle applies to normal UR characters. Careful and selective upgrading will save gold and help you progress more efficiently.

For Free-to-Play (F2P) Players

  • Focus on upgrading the free UR+ character the game provides.
  • Keep it at around +6 to +7, which is enough to:
  • Clear most early game content
  • Earn additional gold and resources
  • Progress smoothly through stages
  • Build a solid team foundation without wasting materials
  • Save your gold and upgrade items for stronger UR+ characters you will obtain later.

Pool System Guide

New Server Pool

If you join a newly opened server, the game works differently during the first 7 days. You will not have access to the normal summoning pool. Instead, the game provides a special New Server Pool with limited characters and special summoning options for beginners.

  • Do NOT spend any gold in the New Server Pool. The characters are limited and not worth investing in.
  • Save your gold until the Normal Pool unlocks after 7 days.
  • Once the Normal Pool becomes available, your chances of getting strong UR+ characters are much higher.

Normal Pool

If you are not on a new server, you have access to the Normal Pool from day one. It contains the full range of characters, including the newest UR+ releases.

UR+ Shard Tiers

  • 120 Shards UR+ (Not Recommended) β€” Generally weaker and not worth investing in. Avoid unless you want them for collection.
  • 180 Shards UR+ (Normal) β€” Decent but around 90% are outdated. Not usually worth your gold.
  • 180 Shards UR+ (P2W Version) β€” Much stronger than normal 180-shard versions. Some can be obtained through in-game events by spending gold, without real money.
  • 200 Shards UR+ (God) β€” Top-tier characters. Strongest abilities and stats. Prioritize these whenever possible. Released 1-2 times per month, typically on the 1st.

How to Check If a UR+ Is Good

Check the date displayed at the top right corner, just below your gold. This shows when the character was released:

  • Characters released before 2025 are generally weaker or outdated.
  • Characters released 2025 or later are more likely to be strong and relevant.

Important Pulling Rules

  • Always ask in #aot-general-chat on Discord before spending gold or shards on any UR+ character.
  • Do NOT pull SSR+ or UR characters from the Normal Pool unless you have a very specific reason.
  • Prioritize Event UR+ characters over Normal Pool UR+ β€” they are usually stronger, limited-time, and better long-term value.

Lucky Egg Event

Available twice per month (1st and 15th). Spend gold to potentially earn more gold back.

Lucky Egg Types

Tier 1 β€” 30 gold per smash:

  • Silver: 39-60 gold
  • Gold: 36-100 gold
  • Diamond: 34-150 gold

Tier 2 β€” 3,000 gold per smash:

  • Silver: 3,900-6,000 gold
  • Gold: 3,600-10,000 gold
  • Diamond: 3,400-15,000 gold

Tier 3 β€” 30,000 gold per smash:

  • Silver: 39,000-60,000 gold
  • Gold: 36,000-100,000 gold
  • Diamond: 34,000-150,000 gold

Notes:

  • You can only smash one type of lucky egg per tier.
  • You need at least 30,000 gold to participate at the highest level with up to 150,000 gold reward.
  • The reward is not guaranteed β€” careful planning is important.

Event Access

To participate in events, you must reach a certain player level. Once met, the event tab appears at the top left of the screen, just below your profile icon.

Martial Spirit Body (Weapons)

To obtain weapons: go to Pool - Spirit Sculpting. You must reach a certain player level to unlock this feature.

Weapon Compatibility

Weapon skills only activate if equipped on a compatible UR or UR+ character. Always check the "Compatible Heroes" section on the left side of the weapon page before equipping.

Free Weapon β€” Glint Mode

You can obtain one weapon for free by completing Glint:

  • Available: 1st to 10th of each month
  • Requirements: A specific required UR+ character at +9

Weapon Star Upgrade Costs

  • Unlock weapon: 100 shards
  • 1 star: +40 shards
  • 2 stars: +80 shards
  • 3 stars: +120 shards
  • 4 stars: +160 shards
  • 5 stars: +300 shards
  • 6 stars: 240 Star Moon Glowstones

Transcendent

Transcendent is very similar to weapons but can be used on all characters.

Equipment Rarities

  • SR β€” Basic rare, suitable for early game
  • SSR β€” Stronger than SR, better bonuses
  • UR β€” High-tier, significantly enhances abilities
  • UR+ β€” Even stronger, often with unique effects
  • MR (Mythic Rare) β€” Highest-tier, best stats and skills

MR Equipment

To equip MR gear you need a Martial Arm (base material) and UR+ Equipment to upgrade.

Steps:

1. Equip UR+ gear on a compatible character

2. Open the equipment page and click on the item

3. Click Upgrade

4. Select Martial Body Awakening

How to Get Martial Arms

  • Main method: Cross-Dimensional Melee β€” earn Advanced Covenant Coins and exchange for MR gear (unlocks 1-3 months after server start)
  • Alternative: Special events that reward Martial Arms

Gear Progression Priority

1. Full UR set first

2. Upgrade to UR+ set

3. Upgrade to MR set using Martial Arms

Use spare UR+ shards from events to upgrade MR gear efficiently.

Treasure Guide

How to Obtain Treasure

  • Tap on a character and open the comments section β€” other players often explain how to unlock treasures
  • Worship System β€” receive treasure rewards based on contributions
  • Pool Summons β€” some treasures available through treasure pools
  • Store β€” purchase directly

Recommended Treasures to Max

  • Gacha Machine β€” At max: gives 1000 gold every 10 days
  • Gift of Chaos β€” Reduces dispatch time by 20%
  • Lucky Bell β€” 10% chance of getting 2X EXP
  • Super Gainz Cat β€” Coins earned +20%
  • Limited Doodoo's Sack β€” EXP earned +20%

These five are extremely useful long-term.

Souls System

Souls work like other gacha games β€” equip 4 of the same type to get bonus stats. Souls can be upgraded.

Soul Star Levels

  • 1-3 stars: Max level 30
  • 4 stars: Max level 40
  • 5 stars: Max level 50

How to Get Souls

From Trial of Hearts (Server Time):

  • 11:00 - 15:00
  • 17:00 - 21:00

Dispatch System

One of the best ways to earn gold, resources, and upgrade materials.

Recommendation: Rush dispatch progress to 9 stars as soon as possible to maximize rewards.

Team Building Tips

Formation Layout

  • Slots 1-4 β€” Support characters
  • Slots 5-6 β€” DPS characters

This setup gives the best overall performance.

Wedding Skin Guide

Wedding skins are special cosmetic outfits that may also unlock unique VOV skills.

How to Obtain

  • Go to Intimate Fashion to draw the wedding skin
  • After you have enough currency, click on the seashell to purchase the dress and ring

Requirements for VOV Skills

  • Character must be upgraded to +3
  • You must own both the wedding dress and wedding ring
  • Cost: typically 50,000 to 80,000 gold

Boost Stones Guide

Four types: Boost Stone I, II, III, and IV.

  • Do not use Boost Stones on characters below UR+
  • Save Boost Stones for mid-game when you have stronger UR+ characters
  • Do not fully max Boost Stones unless you are a whale

Spacetime Arena

A competitive mode where you earn gold and rewards by ranking against other players.

For new players:

  • Spend gold to get extra attempts
  • Aim for the lowest rank possible to earn more gold and rewards early on

Cross-Dimensional Melee (CDM)

War Schedule (Server Time)

  • Truce: 23:00 - 9:00 (no war actions)
  • Declare War: 9:00 - 13:00
  • Preparation: 13:00 - 22:00
  • Battle: During CDM event

Who Can Declare War

Only Guild Leader, Deputy Leader, and Strategic Officer. Normal members cannot.

War Scrolls

  • Earned by completing Provisions Transport missions
  • Also earned passively by occupying cities
  • You can ambush enemy transports to prevent their guild from earning scrolls

Creating a Kingdom

When your guild occupies Chang'an, create a kingdom immediately:

  • Earns 300 gold daily
  • Gives guild members +15% EXP and +15% gold bonuses (assigned through Position tab)

Steps:

1. Open Cross-Dimensional Melee

2. Go to Guild Info

3. Find "Found a Kingdom" button at the top

4. Enter a kingdom name (exactly 2 letters)

5. Press Create

A kingdom in Nan'an can only be created after another guild has already created one in Chang'an.

Entrusted System

Allows guild leaders to use your heroes during war even when you are offline.

  • Go to Guild Info - Team - Entrusted Heroes
  • Place 4 heroes into Entrusted for efficient management

Auction System

If more than one guild declares war on the same city, an auction decides who attacks. The highest bid wins. If the first guild doesn't bid, the second guild wins by default.
